Swedish
Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks. It has also been shown to be helpful in individuals with poor circulation.

Acupressure/Trigger Point Therapy
A trigger point is a hyper-irritable spot that is painful. It is called a trigger point because it “triggers” a painful response. But a trigger point is more than a tender nodule. It affects not only the muscle where the trigger point is located, but also causes “referred pain” in tissues supplied by nerves. Trigger points are located in a taut band of muscles fibers. The trigger point is the most tender point in the band. The therapist will locate and deactivate them using finger pressure.

Pre-Natal Massage
Pregnancy massage is a light-pressure, relaxing massage for expecting women. We use extra pillows and bolsters to make certain the the mother comfortable and that no extra pressure is placed on the fetus. Massage therapy during pregnancy is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. Massage relieves many of the common discomforts during pregnancy such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches, and swelling. In addition, massage during pregnancy encourages blood circulation, helps to relax nervous tension, and can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes.

PRE-NATAL MASSAGE NOTICE: We require doctors referral for women at/over 27 weeks pregnant and women who are medium/high risk pregnancies. Due to the greater chance of early labor, we respectfully reserve the right to cancel the appointment if the therapist feels there is too great a risk. If you purchased a groupon and are asked to reschedule, we will honor it after expiration date until it is safe to receive a massage. Please notify your therapist before scheduling if you are medium/high risk pregnancy or if you’ve had problems maintaining blood pressure and blood sugar during your pregnancy. We do not recommend aromatherapy for pregnant women. If at any time during your pre-natal massage you experience discomfort, tell your therapist immediately.
